The Latest . . .

As the summer came to a close, I’ve found a paying job at a dentist office, working Monday through Thursday from 8:30 to 1:30 where I perform a variety of clerical tasks.  It feels great to be employed in a professional work environment and it feels just as good to know that I’m providing a needed service to this business; I hope they feel the same about me.  I also volunteer in the high school’s athletic department on Fridays. As time permits, I would like to do more volunteering in the community.

For the past four years, because of my memory challenges, I have been using a written planner/journal to aid in remembering, organizing and planning my day to day activities. Last week, I purchased an Ipad, which is a mini laptop, to take care of and simplify this daunting task. So far, I feel much more organized and less cluttered and confused. I’m hoping this works out.

I’ll continue to keep everyone up to date on what’s going on in my life, but I’m also open for any input from you.

Hey Rachel,

Rock on for getting back into the work field.

I wanted to stop and let you know about my weekend. I attend community college in Austin and although I have disabilities, particularly with my balance and strength in my left side, I am enrolled in a dance class. The class is a mixed abilities class that includes people from dance majors, to visually impaired people and me! There is some amazing work happening in Austin as far as people who have less physical capabilities being able to participate in the arts. This weekend, through a lot of hard work, my dance instructor, with the help of VSA and other people in the community, held a weekend long dance intensive. It was incredible. Basically, it was a way for people with and without disabilities to come together to dance, bond and express themselves with the body. Perhaps you can search for something like this in your community.

Hope all keeps going well,

Rita

Rachel,
Honey I don't have anything profound to say just that as christians, in the face of adversity and trials that God can use us if we are willing, to reach others. Even the tiniest gestures and the smallest tasks when they are for the sake of another person, can bless that person and may cause THAT person to do something good, and so on. But-better than that, you yourself will be blessed in ways you cannot imagine. In your life, your relationships and the greatest of all -your tender heart and soul.
May God continue to mold and shape the Rachel we all love.

Rachel, you continue to amaze and inspire us and make us proud! When I get back for Thanksgiving, you'll have to show me how that IPad works. They look cool. See you next month! Love you!

The Climb

Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down
But no, I'm not breaking

And I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on
