About Me

My husband, Jacques Gonzales, was shot by a road raged man in the forehead after my husband yelled at the man after he almost ran my husband over on a residential street in San Antonio, TX. After my husband yelled at the driver to slow down, the man stopped his vehicle, got out and shot my husband in the forehead. All while my little girl and I stood behind my husband and witnessed the entire ordeal. After my husband was on the ground, the man walked up and stood directly over him and shot him in the chest and in the stomach. Frozen and in shock, I stood there and saw it all happen. I thought he was coming to shoot me next but he didn't. He wanted to make sure my husband was dead. He walked calmly away and left in his vehicle like he had done nothing wrong. My little girl was able to run behind a mailbox and hide. But she saw the first shot and the aftermath of me crying hystericallay over my husband and the blood pouring from his head onto the hot street asphalt. Needless to say, we have PTSD but are coping with it. The important thing is that my husband not only survived, he is THRIVING! He faced many challenges in his recovery of course, we all did, but God is good and with faith and prayer, anything is possible. I hope by sharing his story with others that we can help others have hope and not give up when they suffer a TBI. I hope someday to write a book about some of the pitfalls to watch out for along the way of the TBI journey and how to avoid or solve problems that can cause unnecessary anguish and stall the recovery of the individual and the family. It has only been a year and half since this happened and we are still finding our way. In the meantime, we will reach out to others who are going through this and hopefully inspire others with a TBI. Just last week a young officer named Robert Deckard, of the San Antonio Police Department, wa shot in the forehead and he has a bullet lodged in his brain that cannot be taken out. My heart goes out to his family and I took my husband to see the young officer's worried wife to let her know that miracles can happen. This officer is a fighter and he has a chance at recovery. Please pray for him as we will. Thank you!
